    Why visit Auschwitz-Birkenau?

Auschwitz-Birkenau is a place of remembrance, education and historical reflection. Its preserved sites help visitors understand the scale of Nazi persecution and extermination and remember the people who were murdered there.

A visit requires respect, enough time and advance planning. Private transport removes connections and lets departure from Brno be planned around your reserved entry time.

    Historical background

Auschwitz was established by Nazi Germany in 1940 near the Polish town of Oświęcim in occupied Poland. Auschwitz II-Birkenau became the largest part of the camp complex and the main site of mass extermination.

Approximately 1.1 million people were murdered at Auschwitz, around one million of them Jews. Other victims included Poles, Roma and Sinti, Soviet prisoners of war and people of many other nationalities. Today the site is a Memorial and Museum.

    Auschwitz I

Auschwitz I is the original part of the complex. Its surviving brick blocks contain historical exhibitions, victims' personal belongings and documentation about prisoners and the camp system.

The visitor route usually includes the entrance gate and places connected with prisoners' daily lives. Photography is restricted in some areas; always follow the Museum's rules.

    Auschwitz II-Birkenau

Birkenau lies several kilometres from Auschwitz I. Its vast grounds, railway siding, gatehouse, barracks and ruins of gas chambers convey the scale of the Nazi extermination system.

Movement between the two parts follows the official visit you reserve. Lucky Transfer provides transport from Brno and waits during your visit; the Memorial determines the tour arrangements.
